Create with AI
Create with AI builds a playable starter game from a title and a description. The AI asks a few questions, proposes your card properties, then writes five cards with simple effects and draws their art. You confirm or edit each step before moving on. At the end you get a normal game that you keep editing like any other.
Starting
- Open My Games and click New Game.
- Fill in the Title, the Description and an emoji. The description is what the AI works from, so describe the game's world, factions and mood.
- Click Create with AI. It's enabled once both the title and the description are filled.
AI features are paid for with AI credits. Every account starts with 125 free credits, and creating a game with AI uses about 41, so about three games. The dialog shows your balance. Each AI step and each image uses credits as it runs, whether or not you finish the game. Starting a new AI game needs enough credits for its text steps (questions, properties and cards), currently 11. With fewer, Create with AI opens Not enough AI credits instead, where you can buy more (see Account). When AI creation is unavailable, the dialog shows only Create by hand. The same credits pay for AI illustrations in the Card Editor and AI icons in Card Properties.
The five steps
-
Basics — your title, description and emoji. The wizard moves on by itself when you came from the New Game dialog.
-
Questions — answer up to four multiple-choice questions: two or three about the game you want, and a last one about the illustration style of the card art. Your answer to that one sets the Art style in the next step. Use Anything else? for extra wishes. The AI only offers options Card Forge can actually do.
-
Properties — every card has Cost, Attack and Defense. The AI adds one or two properties of its own that matter in play, at least one of them text based, for example an element or a faction. It never proposes a rarity property, because rarities have their own system on the Collecting tab. One text property is marked Color, with a colour dot next to each value: cards are tinted by that property's value. You can rename them, add or remove text values, or remove a property entirely. Art style sets the style used for all the art. To get a different proposal, write a note under Regenerate with notes and click Regenerate.
-
Cards — five cards, each with a cost, Attack, Defense, its property values and at most one effect. Open a card's menu to:
- Edit its name, stats, values, effect and art prompt;
- Regenerate card to replace just that card;
- Generate image or Regenerate image for its illustration;
- Copy art prompt to make the art yourself in another image tool.
Generate card art draws every missing card illustration. Generate icons draws an emblem for each text value your cards use, such as a faction's insignia. Each may take a few minutes; keep the page open while it runs. If the image service is busy, wait a minute and press the same button again. It only retries what's missing.
Icons are drawn in colour. Turn on Monochrome icons above the icon list to show them as single-colour outlines instead; switching costs nothing and can be changed again later in Card Properties.
-
Review & create — a summary of the game. Click Create game to create it and open it in the editor.
The editor opens with Your game is ready!. Click Play vs AI to try your game straight away, or Later to start editing. When that first match ends, Keep building your game takes you back to the editor with Suggested next steps open: a short list of what to do next. Leaving the match early takes you to the same place.
At least one card must cost 1, because a cost-based match starts with 1 mana. The wizard won't move past step 4 until one does.
If you click Next on step 4 while some art is missing, the wizard asks first. You can Go back and generate it, or Continue without them and add the art later in the Card Editor.
Changing the properties after the cards exist clears the cards, because they were written for the old properties. The wizard asks you to confirm first.
What you get
The game is created with your properties and their values, the five cards, their effects and their art. Text properties show their values as icons, in colour or monochrome as you chose. Cards are tinted by the colour property's value, with white text on the darker colours; change the colours, or which property is the color property, in Card Properties. The style the art was made in is saved in the Art style field on the Details tab.
It starts with rules suited to a small, quick game (see Game Rules):
| Rule | Value |
|---|---|
| Summoning mode | Cost Based |
| Deck size | 10 |
| Starting hand size / Max hand size | 3 / 8 |
| Starting life | 10 |
| Max mana | 12 |
| Max card copies | 3 |
| Max mulligan | 3 |
| Win condition | Deck is empty |
It also comes with a ready-made Starter Deck: two copies of each card, marked as both the starter deck and the AI deck in the Deck Builder. So you can play it against the AI straight away, before publishing it (see Publishing), and publish it whenever you're ready. Split it into separate starter and AI decks whenever you like.
Everything can be changed afterwards like in any other game. You can replace any illustration in the Card Editor, where each card's art prompt is kept as its illustration description, and the cards' effects are ordinary effects you can edit in Effects.
Leaving and coming back
The wizard saves your progress in this browser as you go. If you leave the page, the New Game dialog shows a line for your unfinished AI game, with a Resume link. The wizard itself offers Resume or Discard when you return.
- Images that finish after you leave are still saved, and appear when you resume.
- Discard throws the draft away. Credits it already used aren't given back.
- Starting a new AI game replaces the unfinished one. The New Game dialog and the wizard both say so before you do.
- Progress is kept only in the browser you used. On another device you start over.
- While art is generating or the game is being created, your browser asks before you close or reload the page.
Limits
- Your AI credits. A step or image that needs more credits than you have left opens Not enough AI credits. Choose Go back, or buy credits and carry on with the same draft. An AI game you've already started can continue below 11 credits.
- Each draft has a limited number of AI suggestions and image generations. Every Next that asks the AI, every Regenerate, and every image counts. When a draft runs out, you can still edit what you have and create the game.
