Board
The Board tab sets up the play area and how a match looks and sounds, not the rules. It has three sub-tabs: Layout, Background and Music & Sound. Playtesting happens by clicking Play (see Matchmaking).
Layout
Size
- Set the number of rows and columns. Rows count per player, so 1 row gives each player one line of placeholders. A new game starts at 1 × 6, and boards go up to 3 × 9. A board with 3 columns or fewer can also be played on a phone held upright; on a wider board, phone players are asked to turn their phone sideways.
- Mirror opponent board — when on, the opponent's side mirrors your layout; when off, both sides can be configured independently.
Placeholder restrictions
Each placeholder (a single slot on the board) can restrict which Agent cards may be placed on it, based on the game's text card properties.
For each rule you pick:
- The property (e.g.
Element). - One or more of that property's allowed values (e.g.
Fire,Water). - Whether the rule is allow-exclusive (only cards with these values can occupy the placeholder) or disallow (cards with these values are barred).
- The placeholders it applies to.
Rules stack, so you can carve out zones like a "front row" that only accepts certain unit types.
Background, music and sound effects
A custom table background, background music and custom sound effects are available on the Supporter and Patron plans (see Account). Everyone who plays your game sees and hears them, including in matches that have already started.
Background
On Board → Background:
- Upload image adds a PNG, JPEG or WebP image of up to 2 MB, shown behind the board. Replace image swaps it, and Remove takes it off.
- Background opacity (10–100%, default 45%) sets how strongly the image shows through. The preview above the slider shows the result.
- Credit (optional) is up to 200 characters crediting the artist or the licence.
Music
On Board → Music & Sound, under Background music:
- Upload track adds an MP3, M4A or OGG file of up to 6 MB, which loops during matches. Replace track swaps it, and Remove takes it off.
- Credit (optional) works the same way as the background's.
Sound effects
Further down Board → Music & Sound, under Sound effects, you can replace any of the four built-in match sounds: Draw card, Play card, Attack and End turn.
- Upload adds an MP3, M4A, OGG or WAV file of up to 256 KB for that sound. Replace swaps it, and Restore goes back to the built-in sound.
- The play button next to each one plays the sound that's currently set.
- One Credit (optional) covers all your custom sounds.
Saving
Changes on each sub-tab are a draft until you click Save Background or Save Music & Sound. A picked file uploads only at that point. Discard drops the draft, and Unsaved changes shows that one is pending. Removing a file also clears its credit.
If your plan ends, the background, music and sounds you already set stay. You can still remove them or edit their credits and opacity, but you can't upload new files.
In a match
Players open the Sound dialog with the speaker button next to the exit button. The dialog has a volume slider for sound effects, plus a Music slider whenever the game has music. It also lists the game's credits. Turning the music down to 0 pauses it, and turning it back up resumes where it left off. The volume is remembered in that browser for every game.
